The past, present and future of pain control (Seminar, Royal Society of Medicine, 29 May 2015)

The aim of the session is to explore how pain has been portrayed over the centuries, how it has been managed in laboratory animals and in the military settings over the years.

At the end of the session participants will be able to:

  1. Appreciate how fundamental pain is to human life and how our approach to it has changed over the centuries
  2. Examine the history of pain management in laboratory animals and discuss its implications on the quality of science
  3. Assess how the military have approached acute and chronic pain over the centuries
