Social Prescribing in County Durham

Mike White writes: I’ve just completed an evaluation of an arts on referral scheme for Durham PCT. It’s a pilot scheme which, whilst successful in engaging participants with various long–term health conditions, was hampered by an over–complex ‘willing provider’ model that attempted to create a competitive market for artists delivering the scheme. The Warwick Edinburgh wellbeing measure was used but not always correctly applied. The scheme is learning from its faults and is an interesting development in the current policy context for mental health. The PCT hopes the scheme can be sustained in the transition from PCTs to GP consortia and has committed another three years’ support for it. My report, or a link to it, should be available on CMH site in near future.
