The Royal Society for Public Health awards marking significant contributions to research and practice in the field of Arts and Health are now in their fifth year. Previous awards have recognised excellent work in the fields of music and health, arts and mental health, arts and health inequalities and the role of arts organisations in promoting wellbeing. This year, the awards will focus on the role of the creative arts in the promoting the health and wellbeing of children and/or young people. Nominations are invited for individuals, teams or organisations whose work has furthered the contribution of the creative arts in fostering the health and wellbeing of children and/or young people in one or more of the following ways:
- Through the development of innovative programmes of creative activity in healthcare or community contexts in the interests of promoting the health and wellbeing of children and/or young people
- Through the development of conceptual and theoretical perspectives on the linkages between creative arts and the promotion of health and wellbeing of children and/or young people
- Through conducting significant research or evaluation studies that contribute to a developing evidence base of the contribution of the creative arts in promoting the health and wellbeing of children and/or young people
Nominations should be received by FRIDAY 6 JULY 2012 and will be considered by a special Awards Committee established by the Royal Society for Public Health. The Awards Committee will consider nominations in relation to the following criteria:
- The project addresses significant public health issues affecting children and/or young people
- There is evidence of community consultation and user involvement
- There is evidence of good partnership working (e.g. between NHS and other organisations)
- The project has a wide scope and reach (e.g. in terms of population, geographical coverage, time-scale)
- The project is evidence-based or has generated evidence on the effectiveness of the initiative
A decision will be announced by the end of July 2012, and the awards will be presented during theAnnual Conference of the Royal Society, Thursday 13th September 2012.
