The appointment will be on UCL Grade 6. The salary range will be £29,485 – £31,091 per annum, depending on skills and experience, inclusive of London Allowance.

The Louis Dundas Centre for Children’s Palliative care seeks to appoint a Research Assistant interested in pursuing research which contributes to the understanding and improvement of the lives of children with-life limiting conditions and life-threatening illnesses and their families.

Over the next two years the post holder will work on two possibly three projects in the area of decision making in care and treatment. The successful applicant will have experience in analysing verbatim transcripts of interactions among healthcare professionals, patients and families, interviews with researchers and medical records.

This role is initially funded for 2 years in the first instance.

The ideal candidate will have a Masters degree (MA, MSc, MRes) in relevant subject area (e.g. medical anthropology, medical sociology, health psychology, nursing. epidemiology) and previous experience of managing qualitative data, including collection via interviews or observation, verbatim transcription from field notes and audio tapes, analysis using qualitative data analysis software.

You should also have experience in assisting in collecting and analysing data as part of research teams in high quality research institutions and organisations and participating in multi-disciplinary research projects.

A background in any of a number of health related or social science disciplines would be appropriate, excellent communication and organizational skills along with the ability to be flexible and adaptable are a must.
