Post-Doctoral Research Associate – health inequalities (CfA, St John’s College Cambridge, 4 September 2015)

An opportunity has arisen at St John’s College Cambridge to work on a project on health inequalities as a Post-Doctoral Research Associate.

A group of academics in Cambridge have been pioneering an exciting new approach to the study of health inequalities. The purpose of this new role is to assist in the consolidation of their activities and in the further development of a research programme. The research programme will investigate interdisciplinary links in the study of health inequalities. The appointee will support the team in Cambridge in the preparation of academic and policy papers for publication, developing grant proposals and engaging senior undergraduate and postgraduate students at the College in this work.

The successful candidate will be educated to doctoral level in Sociology, Psychology, History, Biology, Epidemiology, Public Health/Primary Care, History and Philosophy of Science or related area, and will have an excellent knowledge and understanding of their substantive discipline. They will also have experience of undertaking research independently and of writing and preparing papers for publication.

The College offers a competitive benefits package including membership of the USS pension scheme, 36 days’ annual leave (inclusive of bank holidays) pro rata, free lunch (up to a specified monetary limit) and free parking close to the College site. It is a 9 month fixed-term contract, 30 hours per week and the salary is £29k p.a. pro-rata plus benefits. However, candidates who wish to work full-time for a period of 7.5 months instead will also be considered.
