For six weeks from 28 October to 10 December, Performing Medicine: The Anatomy Season explores the fertile and fascinating relationships between anatomy and performance bringing together brilliant artists, anatomists, medics and thinkers for a series of conversations, performances and workshops.
Beginning with the dissection of the theatre at Sadler’s Wells for the world premiere of Clod Ensemble’s performance An Anatomie In Four Quarters – the events take you across London to the Wellcome Collection, through the fascinating exhibits at the Hunterian Museum, back to Sadler’s Wells and onto Whitechapel Gallery.
Season highlights include the UK premiere of Through The Weeping Glass – the latest work from acclaimed filmmakers the Quay Brothers a pop up surgical lesson from Professor Roger Kneebone, a conversation with ORLAN the first artist to use surgery in her performance work, a discussion and organ knitting session hosted by The Knit Crowd with guests including Professor of Anatomy Ceri Davis, an exploration of the Hunterian Museum’s anatomical collection with guides including Editor-in-Chief of Gray’s Anatomy Susan Standring, a drawing workshop with broadcaster and artist Sarah Simblet plus an Anatomy Lesson you’ll never forget from artists including Wendy Houstoun, Brian Lobel, Lois Weaver and John Hegley.
You can also take part in a series of practical workshops including two weekend courses. The Poetic Body is inspired by the work of Jacques Lecoq and Anatomy Through Movement – is two days of dance, yoga and theatre sessions with a host of acclaimed practitioners.
