“Medical humanities, in its most basic connotation, deals with the intersection of human experience, medical practice, and scientific technology. The field transcends the disciplinary boundaries of academe and engages all aspects of human culture— science, history, ethics, philosophy, literature, religion, art—in a discursive dialogue centered on what medicine means in relation to the individual in society.”humanities

The Drew University Transatlantic Connections Conference is a unique, multi-disciplinary conference embracing the connections between Ireland and the United States. In 2015, we will gather together again in Donegal from January 15th-18th to enjoy discussions, debates and discourse on the ties that bind us together.

The Medical Humanities School at Drew University is interested in a conversation about the importance and conceptual scope of the medical humanities, and how they are informing the next generation of medical students. We are seeking papers that are highly interdisciplinary, including those from both academic and medical communities. Submissions are welcome from any of the following: the history of medicine and health care, bioethics, sociology, medical anthropology, sociology of medicine and health, cross‐cultural approaches to medicine and health, health and health care in literature, poetry, and in the visual arts.

Presentations should be no longer than twenty minutes. Potential presenters should submit an abstract of approximately 250 words to [email protected] The submission deadline is November 1 2014
