Job Opportunity – Engaged Research Fellow, University of Exeter

This post is offered on a full time fixed term basis and is available from the 1 April 2015 until 31 March 2017.

We are seeking to attract an Engaged Research Fellow. This role will mirror the institution’s commitment to embedding public engagement within the research process. It is envisaged that their research will include a non-academic partner who will be a collaborative partner in the research itself. They will act as an advocate and a champion for engaged research, sharing their knowledge and expertise within the University and the wider public engagement network, advising on engagement activities, methods and how to embed public engagement within the research process.

The Fellow will be based within the Centre for Biomedical Modelling and Analysis which is led by a core group of leading interdisciplinary biomedical academics from across different colleges: Tim Fraying (Professor of Human Genetics), Christian Soeller (Professor of Physical Cell Biology), John Terry (Professor of Biomedical Modelling), Ed Watkins (Professor of Experimental and Applied Clinical Psychology), James Wakefield (Associate Professor in Cell Biology) and Jonathan Barry (Director of the Centre for Medical History). These Professors will play an important role in mentoring the Fellow as well as utilising the Centre to establish new collaborations within the institute. The applicant would also be expected to work with those engaged in the Medical Humanities strand of the University’s Humanities and Social Science Strategy.

The successful candidate will have a strong background in health research in areas such as medical humanities, health sociology, or applied medicine and have a commitment to developing close ties with biomedical disciplines such as mathematics, computer science, informatics and physics. Having built expertise in engaged research in these areas, the candidate will have a desire to apply this in the biomedical/medical humanities remit in order to develop their career pathway as an independent researcher.
