ESRC Seminar on Home Space: Public and private in new welfare settings

Tuesday 11 December, 10 – 4.30pm, the Open University, Milton Keynes, UK, MK7 6AA

The first of this ESRC series of seminars is now open for registration. The series will bring together a multi-disciplinary group of researchers, policy-makers and practitioners to explore feelings of ‘home’ and ‘belonging’ in public service, institutional and care settings across the life course, in spaces including childcare environments, hospitals and sites of care for older people. This focus will open up wider questions about governance and policy changes, public and private lives, power and space.

The opening seminar, entitled ‘Paradoxes and histories of home space’ will develop an analytical and historical narrative in terms of domestic spaces, policy change and user experience of ‘home’ spaces, and speakers will include Professor Christine Milligan (Lancaster), Dr Janet Fink (Open University), Dr Peter Kraftl (Leicester), Professor Alison Blunt (QMUL), Dr Jane Hamlett (Royal Holloway).

The seminar is free to attend and there are a limited number of postgraduate travel bursaries. For more information and to register, please visit the website.
