Giving Face by Professor Stephen Pattison

Stephen Pattison, our Visiting Fellow this term, will be presenting a seminar on his current research and thinking on the importance of face in care and theology. An interdisciplinary scholar trained in practical theology, ethics, and public service management, Stephen is a former chair of the British and Irish Association for Practical Theology and is currently director of the new Doctor of Practical Theology programme at Birmingham (run in collaboration with three other universities); he also sits on the Ethics Committee of the Royal College of General Practitioners. He is engaged with three long term joint interdisciplinary research projects on genetics and the humanities, values in health care practice, and vision and religion, as well as being researcher on a project on chaplaincy and Islam. His teaching interests lie principally in practical and pastoral theology, and in ethics.
