European Society for Health and Medical Sociology – Europe in a Global Perspective (CfP, Conference, 3-4 September 2015)

European Society for Health and Medical Sociology
3rd Special Interest Meeting: Europe in a Global Perspective
September 3-4, 2015
Trondheim, Norway
Department of Sociology and Political Science
Norwegian University of Science and Technology

Social inequalities in health are a global phenomenon. At the same time, it is increasingly recognized that health is influenced by global processes such as trade liberalization and financial deregulation. The main aim of this Special Interest Meeting is to examine European public health, both its determinants and specific health outcomes, in a global perspective. The ESHMS was founded in cooperation with the World Health Organization, however comparative European sociological research is often limited to European countries. Sociologically informed contributions are sought which examine how societies and social change influence population health. Priority will be given to work which compares at least one European country with at least one country of a different world region, although we welcome contributions limited to European countries as well. The format of the Meeting will be in-depth discussions of full high-quality paper presentations. The conference will also focus on providing opportunities to create new globally-oriented research collaborations.

We are especially interested in postdoctoral researchers and advanced PhD students in the final stage of their research. Starting PhD students are welcome too when accompanied by their supervisor. Conference registration fees will be waived for PhD students (who have paid their ESHMS membership).

The conference will also be of interest to senior researchers who are looking for partners and funding opportunities in Europe.

The deadline for abstract submission is April 1 2015. Submissions should be sent by e-mail to Courtney McNamara. For more details on the conference and submission process please visit the web site.
