Compassionate Care Workshop (UCMS, Delhi, May 2015)

The Medical Humanities Group of University College of Medical Sciences (UCMS), Delhi is organising a one day workshop on ‘Compassionate Care’ on 12 May 2015. Dr Carlos Moreno-Leguizamon, faculty of health and education at University of Greenwich, UK will be the lead faculty for this course.

The aim of this one day workshop is to encourage an understanding of the concept of compassion and the importance and implications of its practical application within a healthcare setting. A mixed audience of faculty and health care professionals from four medical institutions- Maulana Azad Medical College, Hamdard Institute of Medical Sciences & UCMS from Delhi and PSGIMSR from Coimbatore -will have the opportunity to develop and reflect on their communication skills, and to develop a deeper understanding of themselves (realizing their limitations and when to seek help), their service-users’ needs and concerns, and other members of the healthcare team. The aims will be achieved by using reflective practices, sharing of experiences and interactive learning.

The workshop will be given credit hours from the statutory body Delhi Medical Council as applicable. Those who are interested in submitting a manuscript on ‘Compassionate Care’ or any other aspect of medical humanities are welcome to submit it for our open access, peer-reviewed online journal RHiME – Research & Humanities in Medical Education.
