The first Affiliates’ Lunch of 2015 is on Thursday, 29th January from 12-2pm at St Chad’s College.
We are holding four meetings this year, each focused on an interdisciplinary theme which we hope will be of interest to affiliates and researchers across the university. At each meeting, two colleagues from different disciplines will speak informally for 10-15 minutes, followed by discussion over a buffet lunch.
The theme for the meeting on 29th January is ‘Rituals and Organ Donation’, on which Professor Douglas Davies (Department of Theology) and Professor Bob Simpson (Department of Anthropology) will offer two complementary perspectives.
Speakers and themes for future Affiliates’ Lunches include Dr Duika Burges Watson and Dr Susan Lewis, ‘Resources for Living: visualising experiences of food and eating for survivors of head and neck cancer’ (12 March 2015); Professor Lucille Cairns, ‘Bodily dis-ease in contemporary French women’s literature (23 April 2015), and an extended joint workshop with the Centre for Visual Arts and Cultures (18 June 2015), with Professors Ludmilla Jordanova and Janet Stewart, which will include external speakers.
All researchers in the university, including early career researchers and postgraduates, are most welcome at all these events. If you know of members of staff or postgraduates who might be interested, please do forward this invitation. We are always delighted to welcome new affiliates and to add new names to our mailing list: please let us know if you are aware of researchers who might be interested in the work of the Centre. We are also very happy to hear suggestions for future themes.
For catering purposes, it would be very helpful if you were able to confirm your place at the lunch. To do so, please contact our Administrator, Jane Abel.
We look forward very much to welcoming you to this event.
