The Public culture research group in the Department of Anthropology, is hosting a workshop on embodiment entitled: ‘Challenging embodied perceptions: Anthropology in practice’, led by Radharani Pernarcic, of the Department of Ethnology and Cultural Anthropology at the University of Ljubljana.
Taking place over 2 days (Monday 30th April & Tuesday 1st May) between 10am and 5pm, in the Durham Student’s Union; this interactive workshop will explore how social relations and personal agency are practiced, deconstructed and re-patterned. It is free of charge and open to students and researchers of all levels interested in the fields of movement, embodiment, dance and performance.
Radha, an anthropologist, dancer and choreographer specialising in the study of embodiment, sense and perception, incorporates practical exercises developed in drama and dance theatre to explore interpersonal dynamics, giving anthropologists the tools to ’embody their own knowledge about embodiment’. No dance experience is neccesary and the sessions are appropriate for any fitness level.
Radha’s workshops have had great success in Bratislava, Krakow and Ljubljana so we are very excited to have her here with us in Durham. Previous participants have found the three days offer a fascinating approach to the study of embodiment and perception.
To register please contact Sally Atkinson in the Department of Anthropology before Friday 27th April 2012. The workshop is limited to 15 places, allocated on a 1st come 1st served basis. For more information please download the Challenging Embodied Perceptions Workshop e-flyer
