Centre for Medical Humanities Successes

I am delighted to report that members of the Durham Centre for Medical Humanities have recently been in receipt of University awards for their work. On Wednesday 21 November I attended the Durham University Queens Campus Prize Giving at which Anni Raw (PhD student) was awarded the first ever prize for the best paper published by a student as first author during the course of PhD study. The paper (A hole in the heart: confronting the drive for evidence-based impact research in arts in health) can be accessed here. This award was given by the Wolfson Research Institute for Health and Wellbeing and is an acknowledgement of the ground-breaking nature of Anni’s research.

In addition, my colleague Angela Woods has been awarded a Faculty of Social Science and Health ‘Celebrating Excellence’ Award at a recent University dinner. Angela was the key player along with Charles Fernyhough (Department of Psychology) in the achievement of the recent Strategic Award from the Wellcome Trust entitled ‘Hearing the Voice’, and has established herself at the forefront of cutting edge research in our field.
