All Divided Selves – Luke Fowler’s R D Laing Documentary Screening in Newcastle

posted on February 18, 2025

Jarman Award winner Luke Fowler comes to Star and Shadow with his latest film, All Divided Selves (reviewed on this blog here). The film continues Luke’s inimitable investigation into the oft-maligned psychiatrist R.D. Laing. Coupling archival footage with the artists’s own filmic observations, All Divided Selves also includes sonic contributions from Eric La Casa, Alasdair Roberts and Jean-Luc Guionnet.

The screening will be followed by an improvised set from Richard Youngs and Luke Fowler in the Star and Shadow bar. The prolific, avant-folk Youngs rarely performs and this is his first visit to Star and Shadow. Their coupling promises ‘incredible synth jams based around modulations, atmospheric splurge and stuttering rhythms.’

A double bill not to be missed.
