Joint Special Interest Group for Psychosis (Second Meeting, Durham University, 24 April 2012)

Durham University and Tees, Esk and Wear Valleys NHS Foundation Trust
Joint Special Interest Group for Psychosis.

This group is open to all staff working in either the Trust or University, however will be of particular interest to those staff working in ‘psychosis services’ or who are involved in research within the field. A warm welcome is also extended to any service users who would like to attend.

The group will meet on a regular basis with dates/venues announced within TEWV e.bulletin and the University communications. There will be a wide range of topics and speakers throughout the year for this interactive and participative group.

The next meeting will be held on April 24th 2012 from 6 – 7.30PM in CLC202 in the Calman Learning Centre, Durham University Science Site (43 on this map).

The Joint Psychosis Special Interest Group will be listening to a radio play, Other Voices, by Sara Maitland. This play won the Media Mental Health Award in 2002. Sara has also worked with Stanley Kubrick on AI – now a Spielberg film, and with Ruth Lingford on the prize-winning animation The Pleasures of War. Sara’s experience of voice hearing has been highly influential in her artistic and literary achievements. Her opinions and attitudes on schizophrenia, diagnosis and voice hearing are a challenge to accepted views.

We are delighted that Sara will be able to join the group to discuss her play and the many issues it raises. This discussion will be facilitated by Professor Pat Waugh (English Studies) and Dr Angela Woods (School of Medicine and Health) from Durham University’s Hearing the Voice project.

Places are limited for this event. If you would like to reserve a place please contact Rachel Sanger 01914415768. For more information contact Valentina Short, Charles Fernyhough or Angela Woods.
